The British Open schedule delivers eight days of golf excitement on one of the most iconic courses in the world. Each day of the tournament offers a unique experience. We’ve detailed the provisional 2027 British Open schedule below to help you plan your itinerary.

The 2027 British Open will take place from July 11-18, 2027, at the Old Course in St Andrews, Scotland. The event will begin with four practice days, followed by four tournament rounds.
Opening Day, Practice Day
As the players begin arriving in St Andrews, the opening Sunday offers a great opportunity to explore the course and enjoy the festivities before the tournament action kicks off later in the week. This is also an ideal time to shop for merchandise, with lighter crowds and a more relaxed atmosphere.
Practice Day, Last-Chance Qualifier
The full field arrives at St Andrews for the first full practice day, where they will familiarize themselves with the course and conditions. Monday also features the Last-Chance Qualifier, where 12 players battle it out for the final place in the 2027 British Open field.
Practice Days
Tuesday is typically the busiest practice day, with the full field on-site and focused on fine-tuning their games ahead of the tournament rounds. Wednesday marks the final day of practice, and the last chance for the pros to prepare and familiarize themselves with course conditions before the competition begins.
First Two Tournament Rounds
Play Begins around 6:30 AM
Thursday and Friday bring the first two days of competition at the 2027 British Open. The full field of 156 players tee off in threesomes, playing round one on Thursday and round two on Friday. At the end of play on Friday, the top 70 players (plus ties) make the cut, advancing to the final rounds.
Third Tournament Round (Moving Day)
Play Begins around 8:00 AM
Those who made the cut compete in the third round on Saturday, teeing off in twosomes, with the leaders going last. Saturday has been dubbed Moving Day, due to the dramatic shifts that tend to happen on the leaderboard.
Fourth Tournament Round and Trophy Presentation
Play Begins around 8:00 AM
The excitement reaches its peak on Sunday, as the battle for the Claret Jug reaches its final round. Play begins around 8:00am, with the leaders teeing off last (typically between 2:00 and 3:00 PM). The tournament concludes with the presentation of the trophy to the winner, along with the title of “The Champion Golfer of the Year.”
